Leaving The Repairman And My Wife Alone Was The Most Regretful Decision I Have Ever Made-11
Emma's Voice
"Hello?" Emma’s voice! Thick with sleep, raspy, confused. Clearly woken. "Emma! It’s me! Are you okay? Are you alright?!" I practically screamed, voice cracking. Silence on the line, then bewilderment mixed with irritation: "...David? Are you insane? What could happen? I was sleeping! That pipe kept me up all night..." Her complaint was a barrage of sleepy annoyance.

The Revelation
"Don’t open the door! Don’t let him in! That repairman..." I choked out, voice raw. "He... he went into the bedroom! I saw it on the cameras! He got inside! You locked the door! He picked the lock!" I shouted the words. Dead silence followed. An eternity later, Emma whispered, disbelief and terror trembling through the line: "...What? Who... who came in? I locked it... I... I’d just fallen asleep..." Her voice broke into a sob. "David... Mom’s pearl necklace... on my nightstand... the box... it’s empty!"

The Plant
"The TV stand drawer! Check the drawer!" I yelled into the phone, lungs burning. I heard frantic footsteps, then the sharp scrape of a drawer yanked open. Then—stunned silence. "...David..." Emma’s voice shattered. "...in the drawer... there’s... a black box... not mine... it’s... empty..." Utter terror ripped through her words. Twenty minutes later, wailing sirens approached our street. I screeched into the driveway moments after the police cruiser.
