Leaving The Repairman And My Wife Alone Was The Most Regretful Decision I Have Ever Made-12

Scene of the Crime
Two uniformed officers stood at the door. Emma clutched her robe, face ghostly white, shaking violently, stammering incoherently. Seeing me, she dissolved into tears, stumbling into my arms, gripping my shirt, hysterical. Holding her, feeling her tremors, the delayed horror hit me like a wave. The officers calmed her, then began their investigation. Emma, choking back sobs, explained: She’d heard the man working in the kitchen, but exhaustion overwhelmed her. Between the leak and our fight, she’d barely slept. She’d locked the bedroom door, lain down, and drifted off instantly.

Stolen Legacy
She woke to my call. An officer, gloved, carefully opened the TV stand drawer, retrieving the unfamiliar black velvet box—empty. Emma pointed to her open nightstand drawer. Inside lay an identical open box—the one that held her mother’s sole legacy, a strand of soft, old pearls. Only the indented velvet lining remained. "...The necklace is gone... he took it..." She covered her face, tears streaming. The camera footage became crucial evidence. Police copied all feeds from my phone.

The Impersonator
The video vividly captured "Jack Hunter" slinking into the locked bedroom, emerging minutes later, and planting an item in our drawer. Police contacted "Hunter & Son Plumbing." The bewildered receptionist insisted they’d dispatched no one named "Jack Hunter" to our address. The phone number wasn't theirs. An imposter! A fake plumber staged a burglary! The officers' expressions hardened. They meticulously examined the locks, searching for signs of how he’d bypassed Emma’s deadbolt.
